ViewSonic releases VMP70 Digital Media player

viewsonic_vmp70Viewsonic, best known for their computer displays, announced today its new VMP70 direct-connect, HD media player.

To use the device, users simply connect an external hard drive with their favourite music, photo and video files to the VMP70 which then connects to your HDTV via component or included HDMI cable.

The VMP70 also features a S/PDIF port so you can enabling the player to output digital sound to your home theatre system. A remote control is included for making adjustments to aspect ratio, audio and format settings.

Viewsonic says the VMP70 supports video and audio formats such as MPEG1/2/4, Divx/Xvid, MKV, H.264, VC-1, WMV9, RM/RMVB, DTS, Dolby Digital, WMA, MP3, FLAC, OGG and MKA. VMP70’s connectivity options include HDMI, Component, composite, S/PDIF and duo USB drive slots for optional increased storage space.

    Good price! Does it support 1080p?
    And all that is missing is a Ethernet connection to use it with my NAS… :-(

    How could Viewsonic overlooked the WiFi or Ethernet? Without network connection, a media player is not going to fly.

    no avi – would that mean i would have to convert all my movies before i could watch them with this? if so i’d rather use the one from western digital
