Canada’s top 10 free iPhone Apps

iphone_3GSEarlier this month, Apple announced that its app store now offers more than 100,000 software programs for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Digital Home has compiled a list of ten free uniquely Canadian applications that we think most Canadians will be interested in installing on their iPhone or iPod Touch.

All of the following apps, in alphabetical order, can be found searching on their App name in the iTunes Canada app store.

App Name: Air Canada

Description / Purpose: The app lets you keep find and track Air Canada flights. Also provides access to Air Canada mobile check-in and receive flight notifications.

App Name: CBC Hockey

Version / Last Updated: V1.0 / November 11, 2009
Description / Purpose: Hockey fans can get live scores from every NHL Game, standings by division and conference, stats for every team and players but latest sports CBC sports news.

Version / Last Updated: V1.1 / October 9, 2009
Description / Purpose: Listen to our favourite CBC radio programs from CBC Radio One, CBC Radio 2 and CBC Radio three. Gain access to 33 live streams and more than 60 of the public broadcaster’s most popular programs on demand. You’ll also find a CBC Program Guide so you can find out what’s playing.

App Name: Corus Radio

Description / Purpose: Corus Entertainment owns and operates 52 radio stations in Canada’s major markets including 102.1 the Edge, Q107, CKOI, 98.5 FM, 630 CHED, CJOB 68 and Country 105. This app provides high quality AAC+ streams to all the of Corus stations.

App Name: HOT107

Version / Last Updated: V1.0 / November 12, 2009
Description / Purpose: Listen to music from Edmonton’s newest contemporary hit radio station. The station, which has received considerable industry attention since it launched in early October, is targeted to listeners between the ages of 12 and 34 and features songs from artists such as Ke$ha, Britney Spear, Lil’ Precious, Lady Gaga, 50 Cent, Rihanna and Kanye West.

App Name: MetroNews

Description / Purpose: The Metro Canada news application gives users access to all of the Metro top stories from the English Editions in Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver and the French Edition in Montreal.

Description / Purpose: Watch over one thousand NFB films, animation and trailers movies on your iPhone or iPod touch. Search the NFB collection; browse films by category and Genre.

App Name: Sirius Canada

Version / Last Updated: V1.0 / November 17, 2009
Description / Purpose: Lets Sirius Canada subscribers listen to many Sirus Canada’s music, sports, news, talk, entertainment and comedy channels. Users can also bookmark favourite channels for quick access or use the “look around” feature to see artist / song data from all channels.

App Name: Weather Eye

Version / Last Updated: V 2.1.12 / April 28, 2009
Description / Purpose: WeatherEye, from the Weather Network, provides free detailed current, hourly, short and long term weather information with severe weather alerts and satellite / radar maps.

App Name: Yellow Pages

Version / Last Updated: V 1.1 / August 24, 2009
Description / Purpose: Yellow Pages provides users with the ability to perform business, person and reverse phone look-up. Using built-in GPS functionality, the app also provides proximity based search.

    A couple bones.

    1. CanPages is miles better than the YP app, and in terms of results.
    2. Globe and Mail app is pretty good, but I havent tried Metro so perhaps not as good as it I dont know.
