Telus to drop system access fee
Telus Mobility has announced that, effective November 5th, it will launch new rate plans with no System Access Fees (SAF) or carrier 911 fees. Existing customers will be given the option of renewing their existing rate plans or have the option to switch to the new rate plans at launch.
The move comes exactly one month after Rogers Wireless announced it would be replacing its SAF for all new customers with a government regulatory fee.
Telus says it will begin offering “clear and simple pricing” across both business and consumer wireless rate plans on the same day it launches its new HSPA+ wireless network.
Rather than substitute a new government regulatory fee for the SAF similar to what Rogers Wireless has done, Telus has chosen to simply increase its monthly plans by $5 and drop the $6.95 SAF and 38 to 53 cent 911 fee.
The result is that, effective November 5th, Telus customers will be paying less for their wireless service. In addition, Telus is adding Voicemail to many plans.
Under the Rogers Wireless changes, implemented October 5th, some customers paid less, some customers paid more and free voicemail was not included.
The following is an example, provided by Telus, which illustrates how the existing “Your Choice 25″ package will become the “Clear Choice 30″ package. In this scenario, the Telus subscriber will pay $2.70 less a month and receive voicemail.

It does seem like a bundling of fees when I get this e-mail from telus today:
“Dear Valued Client,
TELUS is committed to sharing important information with you that affects your service with us. We’d like to tell you about an upcoming change to your monthly 911 charge.
On June 23, 2009, the Quebec government adopted a new municipal tax for 911 service. As such, as of December 1, 2009, this new tax of $0.40 per month will be added to the $0.75 per month already collected by TELUS.
Sincerely,
Your TELUS Client Care team”
If anyone has any brains at all…and I mean any brains, they will see that they’ve really done nothing. Increasing their plan by $5 to include voicemail 3 is BS. Does anyone think Telus would be doing this if they would lose money? Why do you think they won’t allow clients with EXISTING plans to just drop their SAF/911 fees? BECAUSE they know you could never get the same plan for the same price ever again even without the SAF/911 fees. Don’t be fooled!
I still would not think to switch to telus. Even if they give everything free. I will not switch to them at any cost. Their customer service is at the bottom. All they care about is their share holders.

Sorry, forgot to add great post! Can’t wait to see your next post!
Not using a mobile phone works for me. $0, no catch. Better for the environment too.
