Sony confirms new 250GB PS3

ps3_250GBOn its official Playstation blog, Sony has announced that a new PS3 system with a 250GB hard drive will be hitting store shelves on November 3.

The console will look the same and offer the same functionality as the slimline 120GB PS3 system introduced in the summer but will contain a beefier hard drive.

Sony says the added storage should give consumers more room for storing games and other entertainment purchased through Sony’s online PlayStation Network. Sony says that by September of this year, PS3 owners had downloaded more than 600 million content items.

The new PS3 will sell for $350 in the United States while the 120GB version will remain at $300. No word on pricing in Canada.

According to the latest numbers from VGChartz, the Sony PS has sold over 25 million units worldwide versus 54 million and 32 million for the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 respectively.

Good move on Sony’s part. The price point is doable as well. If my XBox malfunctions again, I just might go to the darkside for this.
